In today’s second reading we are in the real world of Corinth in Southern Greece in the year 57 AD. Of course there were no churches then and the only place where the Christian community could meet was in the large room of someone’s house. The only people with large rooms were the rich. The Eucharist was celebrated after the common meal, but the problem was that while the rich were eating and drinking well, the poor were overlooked and left hungry. Rather than bringing people together the Eucharist underlined the divisions already in the community. So Paul wrote to them: “when you hold these meetings, it is not the Lord’s supper that you are eating, since when the time comes to eat, everyone is in such a hurry to start his own supper that one person goes hungry while another is getting drunk. Surely you have enough respect for the community not to embarrass poor people?” (1 Cor. 11:20f)

Pentecost Sunday
This is a five-day program for kindergarteners to 6th grade, beginning Monday, July 14th from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. We have a lot of fun with Games, Bible Study, Music, Skits, Arts and Crafts and Snacks that go with the theme of each day. For more information please contact Dcn. St. Elizabeth Seton is introducing a free will-writing tool, sponsored by the Diocese of Phoenix, so all parishioners can create a will for free and support the people and ministries close to their heart.

Legion of Mary, A Lay Apostolate, to begin at
St. Elizabeth Seton
The Legion of Mary is a lay apostolic association of Catholics who, with the sanction of the Church and under the powerful leadership of Mary Immaculate, Mediatrix of All Graces, serve the Church and their neighbour on a voluntary basis in about 170 countries. With the approval and support of the Popes and a great many Bishops, Priests and Religious, as well as the prayers and efforts of legionaries, the Legion, by the grace of God, has grown into a worldwide organization with several million members.
The first meeting will be Thursday, July 3 at 10:30am in the Mt. Carmel Room.
What is it? It’s a special opportunity for you to pray for vocations, You are given a Chalice for two weeks, along with specific prayers. Place it in a prominent place in your home. It’s a wonderful visual as you pray. You don’t need a group of people. Your prayers are needed to ask God to grant us more priest, religious and lay ministers.
REMEMBER: NO PRIEST - NO EUCHARIST
You will be presented the Chalice at the end of Mass or in private. If you are not able to get to church, it can be taken to you. Call Rachel Ruby at 623-972-1051. She will call you back to answer questions or to schedule you to receie the Chalice.

On the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, Bishop John Dolan invites us to delve into the vibrant drama of Peter Paul Rubens’ “The Meeting of Abraham and Melchizedek,” where the priest-king’s offering of bread and wine to Abram pulses with rich theological symbolism. This vivid painting casts Melchizedek as a prophetic foreshadowing of Christ, the eternal high priest, whose Eucharistic gift transforms bread and wine into His very Body and Blood.
Bishop John brings an exciting and insightful perspective to the series as he earned a Master of Arts degree in Liturgy/Church Art and Architecture from St. Patrick’s Seminary and University in Menlo Park, Calif.
