Hurricane Season

We are now one month into hurricane season, which will last until the end of November. In the past, I have had only a passing interest in that. But now I have a brother and a grandson living in Florida with their families, who are in harm’s way. Meanwhile, we are safely tucked away in Arizona, where heat, dust storms and occasional monsoon rains are the major meteorological hazards.
I have never personally experienced a hurricane but avoiding them is one of the reasons we retired in Arizona instead of Florida. Hurricanes are incredibly destructive with high winds and rain. But in the center of a hurricane is a phenomenon called the eye. It is an area of calm winds and no rain. One can look up and see blue sky, when standing in the eye of a hurricane.

This is a five-day program for kindergarteners to 6th grade, beginning Monday, July 14th from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. We have a lot of fun with Games, Bible Study, Music, Skits, Arts and Crafts and Snacks that go with the theme of each day. For more information please contact Dcn. Legion of Mary, A Lay Apostolate, to begin at
St. Elizabeth Seton
The Legion of Mary is a lay apostolic association of Catholics who, with the sanction of the Church and under the powerful leadership of Mary Immaculate, Mediatrix of All Graces, serve the Church and their neighbour on a voluntary basis in about 170 countries. With the approval and support of the Popes and a great many Bishops, Priests and Religious, as well as the prayers and efforts of legionaries, the Legion, by the grace of God, has grown into a worldwide organization with several million members.
The first meeting will be Thursday, July 3 at 10:30am in the Mt. Carmel Room.
What is it? It’s a special opportunity for you to pray for vocations, You are given a Chalice for two weeks, along with specific prayers. Place it in a prominent place in your home. It’s a wonderful visual as you pray. You don’t need a group of people. Your prayers are needed to ask God to grant us more priest, religious and lay ministers.
REMEMBER: NO PRIEST - NO EUCHARIST
You will be presented the Chalice at the end of Mass or in private. If you are not able to get to church, it can be taken to you. Call Rachel Ruby at 623-972-1051. She will call you back to answer questions or to schedule you to receie the Chalice.

Tying this to his seven-year pastoral plan on evangelization, Bishop John invites us to personally take ownership in spreading the Gospel. Imagine the ripple effect if each of us shared the Good News with just one, two, or even six friends!
Bishop John brings an exciting and insightful perspective to the series as he earned a Master of Arts degree in Liturgy/Church Art and Architecture from St. Patrick’s Seminary and University in Menlo Park, Calif.
